Step 1.
Decide on what you want your web site to
accomplish.
-
To give viewers information about your
business/organisations` products, services, were to find
you, contacting you etc.
-
To sell products on-line over the
internet.
Step 2.
Gather all your information together about
your business/organisation that can be used for your web site.
-
Addresses, phone and fax numbers etc.
-
TEXT: Description of your business.
About you and/or your staff or members About your Products
and/or your services you provide.
-
GRAPHICS: Photos of your premises,
products etc
-
STATIONARY: Business card, Logo,
letter head, brochures etc
Step 3.
Think of a name for your web site.
example:
www.yourname.com.au
or
www.yourname.net
If you are a business, your web site name
must use part of your registered business name or it can be an
anachronism.
Eg: Lucky Joe's Hardware. You could use
www.luckyjoeshardware.com.au
or
www.luckyjoes.com.au or
www.ljhardware.com.au or
www.ljh.com.au
There are different extensions too, and
different rules apply. (.com / .net / .net.au / .org / .biz etc
Any .au extensions must be a registered
Australian business with an ABN number.
.org is normally a none profit
organisation.
This name, or address, is referred
to as your Domain Name.
Once you are sure of your Domain Name, it
is then registered through an official Registrar with an annual
fee.
Step 4.
Actual building of your web site.
Call Pages n Pages web design.
Step 5.
The next step is to display it to the
world on the World
Wide
Web
for every one to see.
Firstly, it needs to be "Hosted" with a
Hosting Company. Your web site is "up-loaded" to their
servers/computers, and that's where it sits.
There is annual fee for hosting.
Secondly, it should be submitted to Search
Engines, so companies like Google, Yahoo, MSN have it in their
data bases.
A bit more goes on behind the scenes
offcourse but they are the main things to get your web site up
an running.
Pages n Pages can do most of the above for
you: build your web site, register your domain name, arrange and
up-load it to a suitable hosting company and submit it to the
biggest search engines.
Contact me if you have any questions
or would like to discuss getting a web site.
